The hills are alive with the sound of music, with the song they have sung for a thousand years. The hills fill my heart with the sound of music; my heart wants to sing every song it hears. My heart wants to beat like the wings of the birds that rise from the lake to the trees. My heart wants to sigh like a chime that flies from a church on a breeze, to laugh like a brook when it trips and falls over stones on its way, to sing through the night like a lark who is learning to pray. I go to the hills when my heart is lonely. I know I will hear what I heard before. My heart will be blessed with the sound of music, and I'll sing once more. This song has been my alarm for the past two years. Waking up to it this morning, I had a sudden realization of its meaning. Until today, I loved the song just for Julie Andrews' lovely voice and the beautiful imagery of Austrian hills and nature in general. I thought the theme of the song was this: The beauty of nature never fails to cheer one up.
- "The Sound of Music"
But now I see it a little differently. This song is about a young woman whose heart is missing something. The focus is her heart (or spirit), which is missing color, missing vigor. And nature reminds her heart of what is missing and inspires it to continue searching for that livelihood!
Ah, it's so true, the sound of music from nature... it always inspires. The life it carres is what my heart yearns for. It is also God's magnificent way of connecting with us.
This took me only two years, ha.
